ELECTRODE PASTE

Electrode Paste it is used as a conductive material in electric furnace equipment such as ferroalloy furnace and calcium carbide furnace. Electrode paste can be said to be a simple and technically complicated product in carbon production. After being kneaded and molded, the electrode paste became a finished product. Unlike other carbon and graphite products, when defects occur in the previous process, it can be compensated by baking, graphitization or even an impregnation process. The electrode paste is calcined by the heat in the submerged arc furnace. Therefore, the consumption speed of the electrode and the calcination speed are the key to the use of the electrode paste.

GRAPHITE

Natural graphite is a microcrystalline form in which carbon is found naturally in deposits in the earth.

Of a slightly silvery gray color and smooth texture, it is less hard, but more dense than anthracite, and it is considered that it had a higher degree of transformation than this. Among its characteristics is that it is very lubricating, that it resists very high temperatures, and that it is a very good conductor of electricity, so it has different uses than other types of coal.

Applications:

  • Dry lubricants

  • Forge release agents

  • Drilling mud

  • Physical Earth Systems

  • Carbon setting in cast iron

GRAPHITE ELECTRODES

Graphite electrodes are conductive ends of electrical current. Thanks to the properties of graphite, this type of electrode has a great resistance to high temperatures and a great electrical conductivity.

These types of electrodes are mainly composed of two parts: a cylindrical body and a connection device, commonly called a “nipple”, which is used to connect the electrode. Each component has its technical specifications depending on the manufacturer or the use that is given to it.

It is very common to find graphite composite electrodes in the foundry industry, thanks to its resistance to high temperatures. Typically, electrodes made of graphite are installed in electric arc furnaces. The ends of the electrode -or cathode- conduct a very high electrical charge and generate an electric arc with the metal scrap -or anode- thus producing the necessary heat to melt the metal.

ANTHRACITE

Anthracite is the purest type of mineral coal extracted from the earth. It has a glossy black color, a completely solid composition and does not stain when handled. Produces a pale blue flame and a lot of heat when burning.

Applications:

  • Combustion

  • Charge coal in foundries

  • Reducer in chemical processes

  • Blown coal

  • Carbon setting in foundries

  • Water filtration

  • Advantage

Advantage:

  • Competitive cost

  • Low smoke combustion

  • Low sulfur level
